	The biggest anti-mudslide dam in Central Asia is located in the Medeo gorge. It is a part of a huge anti-mudslide system covering the area of 40,000 km and defending Almaty from mudslides caused by snow melting, heavy rains and earthquakes. The first wall was finished in 1972 and, in less than a year, it saved Almaty from a terrible mudslide. Its wave was 15 meters high and was moving towards Almaty at 10 mps. For directions see Medeo.
