Chimbulak is a great place for skiing and snowboarding. Hours: 10:00-17:00 every day. Telephones: 338624, 332623. If you are on your own car you will have to pay an environment tax of 150 tenge and 50 tenge for parking. There are three chair lifts (300 tenge each) and two cable lifts (50-100 tenge). English speaking instructors charge $25 per hour. Rental equipment is available. There is a hotel and rooms in cottages for rent. You can also slide on huge tires or take a walk.
If you continue along the road to Chimbulak you will find yourself in the Small Almaty Gorge (Maloye Almatinskoye Utshelye). In about an hour walking distance there is a monument to all dead mountaineers of Kazakhstan. Keep going and you will finally get to the Mynzhylky dam. Mynzhylky is a Kazakh name that can be translated as «one thousand mares».
There is no public transport going to Chimbulak. If you care for a 2 hour walk along the highway you can get to Medeo by bus and then continue on foot. Otherwise, take a taxi from the city or Medeo.
