	Sometimes it is a challenge to find some streets even for Almaty born and bred because many streets have been renamed at least 3 times since their foundation. After the collapce of the Soviet Union, the government of independent Kazakhstan has paid too much attention to onomastics. Unlike in other postSoviet cities, streets in Almaty have not received their old names back but have been given new ones. Many Russian language names have been replaced by Kazakh names. Сonfused people keep using old names. When asking for address always check if the street has been recently renamed and that you know both names. Unfortunately, Almaty authorities are not keeping up with the renaming and one can see a lot of old street plates, which adds to the confusion.
